"I have been a seeker and I still am, but
I stopped asking the books and the stars.
I started listening to the teachings of my soul."
From a very young age, I have always found a healing sense of well being and inspiration through my art. This was an intuitive passion of expression for me and remains so to this day. I have been teaching art for over twenty years and my work, as an expressive artist, has been exhibited in museums and acclaimed galleries throughout the Northeast.
As my life’s journey evolved, with all of its rich experiences through the shadow and light, I began to seek an even deeper meditative practice of physical, mental, and spiritual balance. This is when yoga became the conduit that integrated this wholeness into my life. Through the physical practice of getting in touch with my body and the internal practice of connecting to my emotions (by balancing both through breath), I have been much more willing to meet myself in the present moment and to live my life more authentically. It is my desire and intention to encourage others to find their personal path to self awareness through the philosophy and practice of yoga.

"Theresa teaches with confidence, humility, and humor!"
"Practicing yoga with Theresa is the best! It is totally delightful to be in her presence. She is not caught up in her own ego, and allows her pupils to practice in their own comfort level within the class instruction. Every week is a little variation from the week before, keeping it all stimulating."
"Theresa is the most real, down to earth, and authentic yoga instructor I have ever been so fortunate enough to discover."

"If you happen to live in the Westchester, New York or Connecticut area, I highly recommend you visit Artistree Yoga and take a class with Theresa Bates. She is an incredible yoga instructor who specializes in restorative yoga. Her wise and genuine spirit made me learn how to just relax and fall completely in love with the art form."
"Her classes illuminate beautiful and gentle light where her deep understanding of yoga philosophy meets creative sequencing and articulate instruction, resulting in a transformational experience and the connection of mind, body, and spirit. I leave her classes inspired, refreshed, and renewed by the guided experience she so gracefully facilitates."

"Gratitude, joy, and mindfulness are the benefits I have received from experiencing yoga with Theresa. As soon as she approaches my space, her aura invades mine in the most positive way. She has helped me achieve positions that I believed were impossible. From being a 70 year old whose body hurt whenever I moved, to a 71 year old whose step is lighter and attitude is younger."
